Special congratulations goes out to all of our Dance Alliance Repertory Company members for having an amazing 2008-2009 season! We began the season last June with over 30 DARC members receiving scholarships for classes at Dance Alliance. These dancers and their families give so much of themselves that we felt they should be rewarded for their continued "Extra Effort"! The next week, we started our four intense weeks of workshops and rehearsals. During these four weeks the dancers learned mass amounts of choreography for the new season as well as prepared technically for some of our summer trips. Allie Harris was the first dancer off to Los Angeles to assume her new role as an apprentice for Jackie Sleight and Dave Carter of LA Dance Magic. This is an incredible honor and opportunity for her. As one of their apprentices Allie has been to more than a dozen cities across the country this season learning many aspects of our industry. Congrats to Allie! Next we took a group, Chelsea Cendrowski, Jamie Fisher, Allie Harris, Kelly Kerastas, Lissa Kryska, Lindsay Pascoe, Hayley Shannon and Heather Theisen to Los Angeles to participate for the 3rd year in LA Dance Magic's Masters Intensive. What an amazing week for the girls. They danced literally all day with classes from about 9-5 with some of the industries most fantastic teachers and then rehearsals all evening with Jackie Sleight. During this week, LA Dance Magic also auditions dancers to be a part of the LA Dance Magic Company. Allie Harris, Kelly Kerastas, Hayley Shannon and Heather Theisen were accepted as company members and Lissa Kryska was chosen as an alternate. This has been a great opportunity for these girls. They have traveled to many cities this season perfecting their craft. Next, we traveled with a group to New York City. In attendance: Christina Bartson, Brooks Hurbis, Lissa Kryska, Jade Paron, Kelly Kerastas, Kimberly Sackett, Chelsea Cendrowski, Megan Smith, Christina Vollano, Stacey Zielinski, Meridith Groom and the Clark family. We had an amazing stay in Times Square for the week and the girls got very familiar with the subway ride up to Steps on Broadway. They filled their days with numerous classes and of course many excellent touristy adventures! We attended LA Dance Magic this season in Houston, Indianapolis, Detroit and Chicago. In these cities, dozens of dancers participated and should have walked away feeling very accomplished. Numerous dancers made it through both the ballet and jazz portions of the audition and were considered for various scholarships. In all, the dancers received 16 different scholarships! Congratulations to all of you. We also had a wonderful experience competing at this event. We received 2-gold awards, 3-high gold awards, 13-platinum awards, 3-high score overall awards and one routine was selected to perform in the faculty show at the conclusion of the convention. How amazing for the company! While attending NYC Dance Alliance in Lansing we had a great experience at the competition and convention. We were honored with a "Class Act" award, "Outstanding Stage Presence" award, "Outstanding Energy" award, "Outstanding Costume" award and a 3rd Place Junior Line High Score award. Also a big congratulations to the 11 dancers that made it through the entire audition process. Special congratulations goes out to Honora Wood for receiving a Summer Rockette Experience Scholarship for the second year in a row. We are looking forward to our many ventures this summer. We will be at the LA Dance Magic Nationals for our 4th year in Aneheim, CA along with participating in LA Dance Magic's showcase concert, "Final Cut", in Los Angeles, CA. We will follow up those three weeks with our annual trip to NYC to dance at Steps and Broadway Dance Center. We will post a list of dancers that attend these trips. They need a round of applause and special recognition for going above and beyond the normal weekly dance routine.
